British Prime Minister of Indian origin, Rishi Sunak, attended the Hinduja Group’s grand opening of the PM’s Old War Office (OWO) in London’s Whitehall.” This World War II historic landmark has been turned into a luxury hotel that combines splendour and history. Winston Churchill famously described to Mahatma Gandhi as a “half-naked fakir” in 1931, and now the Hindujas, an Indian business family, have renovated this landmark site.

The Princess Royal and sister of King Charles III, Princess Anne, inaugurated the plaque for The OWO following a tour of the hotel with GP Hinduja, chairman of the Hinduja Group.

The 109-year-old Hinduja Group and French hospitality giant Raffles Hotels & Resorts joined forces to build the new hotel. On the hotel’s website, daily rates for the following week range from Rs 1.2 lakh (for a room) to Rs 5.8 lakh (for a suite).

GP Hinduja, chairman of the Hinduja Group, says, “We have always worked to see what best we can do between India and the UK because we believe our role is to act as a bridge between the host country and the motherland.

We had a lot to accomplish during the eight years it took us to transform this famous structure into a symbol of peace and comfort rather than World Wars. The OWO will become a landmark in London and stand for the Hinduja Group’s legacy. First, everyone who arrives in London will come here to investigate.

Along with lawmakers, businesspeople, hotels, and celebrities from cinema and television, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak “made a quick stopover,” the association stated.

Andrea Bocelli and Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber both gave musical performances. The hotel will begin to host guests on Friday, September 29.

The scale and beauty of this imposing edifice completely astounded the team when we first arrived in Whitehall. In order to restore it to its former splendour and pay honour to its history while giving it new life, no expense has been spared. We aspire to leave a legacy that is both ageless and unrivalled with Raffles London at The OWO, said project manager Sanjay Hinduja.

Princess Beatrice, Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, Natalie Pinkman, a British TV presenter, Richard Caring, a British businessman, and actors Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna were among the distinguished guests who attended the OWO’s grand inauguration ceremony, according to the group’s statement.

The renovated OWO is home to 85 Residences by Raffles “as part of the building’s reimagining as a new culinary district for London, complete with nine new restaurants and three bars, including a rooftop with views of Buckingham Palace.”
