The Akshardham Temple is situated in Robbinsville Township, New Jersey, roughly 90 kilometers south of Times Square, New York.

The second-largest Hindu temple outside of India will be located in New Jersey, in the US, and will be formally inaugurated on October 8. The BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham organization constructed the Akshardham temple, which has been hailed as the largest Hindu temple outside of India “in the modern era.”

1) It is situated in Robbinsville Township, New Jersey, and it was constructed over the course of 12 years, from 2011 to 2023, by over 12,500 volunteers from all over the US.

2) The 183-acre temple known as Akshardham was built in accordance with the ancient Hindu scriptures and features architectural aspects from old Indian culture. 10,000 figurines and statuettes, as well as carvings of Indian musical instruments and dancing styles, are among them.

3) There is one main shrine, 12 smaller shrines, nine shikhars (spire-like structures), and nine pyramidal shikhars in the distinctive Hindu temple architecture. It is supposedly built to survive a thousand years.

4) To offer it long-lasting strength, four different kinds of stone, including limestone, pink sandstone, marble, and granite, were employed in its construction. Among these sources were limestone from Bulgaria and Turkey, marble from Greece, Turkey, and Italy, granite from India and China, and sandstone from India.

5) There is also a “Brahma Kund,” or traditional Indian stepwell, on the temple grounds. It includes water from more than 300 different water sources, including all 50 US states and the holiest rivers in India.

6) The temple will be officially opened on October 8, but it will be accessible to the public starting on October 18. Currently, the temple is open to tourists during specific hours, however between September 30 and October 17 it will be closed because of a number of private activities. According to the temple’s official website, the campus entrance will only be accessible to guests Monday through Friday from 10 am to 4:30 pm until September 30.
